The TRX-4 Land Rover Defender is a 1:10 scale trail crawler that combines an officially licensed, highly detailed body with extreme off-road capability. Portal axles provide 80 mm of centre ground clearance and virtually eliminate torque twist, while remotely locking front and rear differentials and a two-speed high/low range transmission adapt to any terrain or driving style. Built on a heavy-duty 1.5 mm steel ladder frame with shaft-driven 4WD, the truck is powered by the 21T Titan 550 brushed motor and XL-5 HV electronic speed controller, accepting 2s-3s LiPo and 6-7 cell NiMH batteries. Oil-filled GTS aluminium coilover shocks, a waterproof metal gear steering servo, and fully waterproof electronics complete this ready-to-explore trail truck.

The Power of Portals

Portal axles raise the truck at the wheels, generating 80 mm of centre pumpkin ground clearance. To achieve the same clearance with straight axles, the tyres would need to be over an inch taller than those fitted to the TRX-4. The design also incorporates steel gears and improves axle geometry, reducing strain on the driveshafts.

Torque Twist Eliminated

The portal axles use gear reduction at the wheels to virtually eliminate torque twist. The Titan 550 motor’s torque translates into straight, powerful forward motion, rather than being wasted twisting the rig off the rocks. The motor runs in a 21T reverse rotation configuration, with precision, preset gear mesh adjustments built in.

All-New Chassis Design

The TRX-4 delivers greatly expanded features, versatility, and capability through a new chassis design where performance and technology combine. Portal axles, remote-locking front and rear differentials, and a high/low range transmission are all incorporated, with Traxxas describing the result as a chassis that ‘looks as good as it performs’.

Rigid Steel Frame

The TRX-4 is built on a heavy-duty formed-steel ladder frame with moulded cross members and 1.5 mm thick steel rails. Four wheelbase positions are available: 300 mm, 312 mm, 324 mm, and 336 mm. The rear shock tower adjusts for short and long wheelbase setups, bumpers adjust fore and aft, and wire routing clips are integrated into the frame rails.

Scale Details

The TRX-4 carries a fully licensed Land Rover Defender body with injection-moulded scale details throughout. The front features a detailed grille, snorkel, tow hooks, side mirrors, and a replica winch, while the rear includes scale accessories and a functional spare tyre. A roll cage, fender flares, and nylon composite wheel wells and floor pans are also included.

Remote Locking Differentials

The TRX-4 lets you lock and unlock both the front and rear differentials remotely from the transmitter. Sleeved micro cables handle the differential action, maintaining scale appearance without limiting suspension articulation. Both front and rear units are remote-locking steel gear differentials operated via cable-actuation.

GTS Aluminium Shocks

Oil-filled coilover GTS shocks feature silver-anodised aluminium bodies with threaded collars for easy ride height adjustment. O-ring cap seals and dual X-ring shaft seals complete the build. The convincing scale realism looks great on the truck, and the shocks deliver silky-smooth damping on the toughest trails.

High/Low Range Transmission

The two-speed high/low range transmission shifts remotely and features dual horizontal shafts and a twin friction plate slipper clutch. Select low range for strong 4WD pulling torque on technical terrain, or shift to high range for faster running along the trail. The transmission is also easily removed for servicing.

3S Power System

The XL-5 HV electronic speed control brings 3s LiPo capability for stronger, more efficient running. Paired with the 21T Titan 550 reverse-rotation brushed motor, with its internal cooling fan, the combination provides torque for steep climbs and all-out speed on flat terrain. With a Traxxas 3s 5000mAh LiPo pack, the system offers up to two hours of run time.

TQi Radio System with Cruise Control

The TQi 2.4 GHz system features a 4-channel transmitter and a 5-channel micro receiver with fail-safe security and integrated telemetry ports. The exclusive cruise control lets you set your speed from the transmitter and fine-tune it with the multi-function knob. Steering and throttle sensitivity and endpoints are adjustable, and the receiver box is waterproof.

Accessory Light Kits

Optional light kits are available to illuminate the trail ahead and lend an authentic appearance to the TRX-4. A separate regulated power supply ensures powerful lighting with consistent brightness. All light kits and light kit accessories are sold separately.
