Product Information
LNER 4900 ‘Gannet’ was one of the last A4 locomotives to be delivered, built in 1938. One of many A4 locomotives named after swift birds, in this case ‘Gannet’ after the Northern Gannet seabird. The locomotive was liveried in the iconic Garter Blue colours and in 1939 the locomotive received the new name of ‘Sir Ronald Matthews’. In 1946 the locomotive was renumbered No. 1. ‘Gannet’ enjoyed 25 years’ service before its withdrawal in 1963 under its second name.
