Description
Graham Farish 377-615 MXA ‘Lobster’ Bogie Open Wagon DB Cargo
The MXA ‘Lobster’ Wagon is the latest modern freight vehicle to join the Graham Farish N scale rolling stock fleet. Whilst the MXAs only entered traffic in the last decade, their true past is much longer as they were created by fitting a new steel box atop redundant Bogie Bolster wagon frames – some of which date back fifty years or more. Built for DB Cargo and used primarily for engineering work, DB has continued the tradition of giving aquatic code names to engineering wagons by calling the MXAs ‘Lobsters’.
The skeletal nature of the frames used for these wagons is evident on the Graham Farish model, on top of which is the industrious new box with its ribbed sides and ends. As is to be expected with modern wagons, there are numerous safety warnings, labels and instructions along with the DB logo and TOPS information, all of which is reproduced crisply and authentically, a stark contrast to the vibrant red bodywork. A full complement of underframe equipment is present, as are turned metal buffer heads, whilst the Y25C bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets and NEM coupling pockets to ensure these models run as well as they look. This particular model depicts a wagon fitted with disc brakes, as evidenced by the lack of brake shoes and hand brake levers.
